DRS Survey - Privacy Statement

The Scottish Government has contracted with The Union and 56 Degree Insight to conduct this survey.

All involved parties are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. Robust procedures are in place to ensure that any data that you provide is processed and stored securely. Your data will not be shared with any other third parties. We are committed to meeting the requirements of the following laws and codes:

  • EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

  • The Market Research Society (MRS) Code of Conduct

RESEARCH RESPONDENTS:

This survey will be conducted by 56 Degree Insight for the specific purpose of helping the Scottish Government to gather information about the implementation, impact and success of the Deposit Return Scheme across the whole of Scotland.

  • All responses to our research are treated in the strictest confidence and in accordance with the MRS Code of Conduct and GDPR.

  • The data collected will be used solely for research purposes and will not be used for sales or marketing by any entity.

  • Research participation is voluntary. You have the opportunity to decline involvement or ‘opt out’ of the research.

  • We are not directly collecting any personally identifiable information within this research project. However, it is possible that a combination of your responses could be deemed personal information (as per the GDPR definition).

  • Aggregated response data will be used for analysis rather than individual responses. No data processing will take place that could identify an individual from the data collected. Furthermore, no data will be provided to the Scottish Government or published that could identify anyone individually.

  • This survey contains some questions of a personal nature regarding disabilities and ethnicity.  If you prefer not to answer these questions, you may choose to abstain from responding by selecting ‘Prefer not to say’. Responses to these questions will be used to help the Scottish Government identify any barriers or issues arising in the implementation of the Deposit Return Scheme. These responses will also be used to assess whether the survey sample was representative of the population of Scotland.

  • Anonymised data may be shared with selected partners involved in delivering the Deposit Return Scheme.  When doing so, all postcode information and all sensitive information relating to disability and ethnicity will be removed from the data entirely.

DATA SECURITY AND STORAGE:

  • Both 56 Degree Insight and The Union have appropriate technical and organisational security policies and procedures in place to protect confidential information from loss, misuse, alteration, or destruction.

  • Additionally, access to this research data is limited to only those who need to access it. Those individuals who have access to the data are required to maintain the confidentiality of the information held.

  • We use reasonable efforts to only retain confidential data collected from you for a time limited to that required for processing or until we are requested to delete it (if earlier).

LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING:

  • All of the information within this survey is being processed on the legal basis that this project is in the public interest. It is a research project to help the Scottish Government with policy decisions associated with the Deposit Research Scheme.

  • All of the data for this research project provided by you is collected from you voluntarily.  In other words you are consenting to the collection and processing of the information you provide to meet this public interest.
